Who We Are

Founded in 2004 as a part of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, New Schools for Chicago (NSC) set out to improve outcomes for all public school students by addressing the broader needs of the education ecosystem. Since our foundation, we've invested $100 million to open 81 schools, creating opportunities for nearly  65,000 students. Since the introduction of these school options, overall graduation rates in Chicago have increased over 20 points; ACT scores have increased nearly two points; and reading and math scores in elementary schools have increased. We beleive in school quality regardless of school type, that every family has the right to a high-quality school option in their neighborhood, and that education policies should put "kids first."
